Figures: Carriers of Memory, with Diego Espaillat
Tuesday, Sept. 29, 6-8pm | United Palace, NoMAA
Explore the symbolic roles of guardians and transformative figures from Día de Muertos and Dominican Carnival by decorating recycled masks representing Judas and Diablo Cojuelo figures. Then, join artist Devin Osorio to paint coconut shell dolls — inspired by Mexican and Caribbean traditions— dedicated to the saints, ancestors or protectors you wish to honor.
Your creations will become part of What We Carry Forward, the participatory ofrenda led by artist Devin Osorio and Tomorrow's Ancestors for this year's Día de Muertos at The Met Cloisters celebration.
